Production Cycle

Step One - Harvesting

Poles are harvested from FSC

accredited plantations only. (Above)

Poles are left infield for ± 2 months.

The graded poles are then transported

to the pole dry yard. (Right)

Step Two - Drying Process

First the poles are kiln dried with

an overcut of ± 0.5m. In the kiln

the poles are subjected to

temperatures of between 80-90

degrees Celsius for up to sixteen

days, which kills any fungal or

bacterial infestation and ensures

that the poles are properly seasoned and dried to 25% moisture content before treating

Step Three - Preparation Process

When the poles have been thoroughly

dried they are moved on railway carts

into the preparation plant. Poles are

crosscut to the correct length, gang

nailed and / or wirebound, drilled

strength tested and roofcut to client's

specifications.

Step Four - Treatment Process

In the treating plant poles are creosote

or CCA treated in pressurized vessels.

This process is controlled via

various gauges and readings that

are crosschecked by independent

quality inspectors from the South

African Bureau of Standards.(SABS)

The SABS spec requires retention's of 115Kg / m³. We can however treat to any

specifications.

Step Five - Final Inspection

When the poles have been treated, thorough inspections are performed.

• Penetration is checked.

• Final inspections of the poles are performed,

this includes all of the physical requirements

of the specification.

• This process is also performed by the

independent quality inspectors of the SABS.

Step Six - Dispatch

Poles are loaded onto road and rail trucks for despatch to Durban harbor for worldwide

delivery. All our treatment plants are within eighty kilometers of the harbour. This makes

export very cost effective.
