OBJECTIVE: Youth Ventures is an initiative by IYDT, the objective is to generate employment, transfer skills, and create viable business opportunities for empowering marginalised rural communities, with emphasis on youth, women, and children. AIMS: (i) To promote youth development, through advocacy, economic empowerment, skills development, capacity building, job creation, policy enhancement, improving accessibility of capital and technical resources, and entrepreneurial development; and (ii) The promotion of the role of women and youth in sustainable use of living resources, natural resources, and prevention of environmental pollution and ecological degradation. APPROACH: Youth Ventures enters into joint venture partnerships with rural communities, with Youth Ventures providing management capacity, technical skills and access to markets, and the rural community providing land and labour. FOCUS:
The
targeted sector is natural resources. This sector falls into
three categories:(i) agribusiness with focus on high
value primary crops, essential oils, agro-processing, and
value adding services; (ii) Forestry and forest down
stream products; and (iii) Small scale mining,
